Worship Services

Grace xmas 2023_edited_edited.jpg

We believe sacraments are “an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 857). Our Lord Jesus Christ gave the church two sacraments: Holy Baptism and Holy Eucharist (also called Holy Communion, or simply, the mass).

Episcopalians also believe in five sacramental rites:  confirmation (an adult affirmation of baptism vows), private confession (reconciliation of a penitent, not required), marriage, ordination (of deacons, priests, and bishops), and anointing the sick or dying with holy oil.

Sundays, 10:30am

Out Sunday worship service is Holy Eucharist, and it is held in the main sanctuary with singing and a full choir. The service is adapted to the seasons of the church year, and lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. Social time follows, in the adjacent church parish hall.

Wednesdays, 8:00am

Our midweek service is a said service of Holy Eucharist, roughly thirty minutes with a lay preacher telling the story of the life of a saint or holy person.  It is held in the side chapel, and followed by optional breakfast at a local restaurant.  On the third Wednesday, a lay person leads Morning Prayer.

Holy Baptism

We believe that holy baptism is "initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church” (Book of Common Prayer, 298). If you wish to schedule a baptism, reach out to the priest, Mother Paula Harris. She will meet with you so you can understand the promises made at baptism. Baptisms are generally scheduled in a communion service, on a Sunday or other feast day.

Weddings

Christian marriage is a covenant - a sacred promise - between two people in the presence of God. Marriage liturgies are inclusive, open to couples of all gender identities and sexual orientations. In the Episcopal Church it is required that one, at least, be a baptized Christian, that two witnesses are present, and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State and canons (church laws). If you would like to explore celebrating and blessing your marriage at Grace, please reach out to make an appointment with our Rector, Mother Paula Harris. If you simply want to check prices and dates, contact the office administrator. If there was a divorce in your past, please allow more time for us to obtain the permission of our bishop.

It is also possible to rent the church building and bring your own officiant. If you would like to do that, please contact the church office for availability and a building tour.

Our priest’s spouse is a chaplain, licensed to perform weddings (including interfaith) at which he helps couples develop their own service and/or write their own vows, whether the service is held at Grace or other venues. If you would like to explore that option, please reach out to the priest to check his availability.

Funerals

The death of a church member should be reported to the priest as soon as possible and arrangements may be made in consultation with the minister of the congregation (Book of Common Prayer, 490). Our priest will also provide funeral services for those who were not members of this church, or those who did not profess the Christian faith. The fee is $200.

Grace has an operating cemetery license for our Resurrection Garden (cremains, buried outside the church building) and Columbarium (cremains, inurned in the chapel). Contact the priest for an application.
