The
very heart and soul of our congregational life is our time spent together
in Christ’s presence in worship. These services change from
church season to season and are marked by beautiful music, dynamic
preaching, prayer that arises from the lives of the congregation,
and a sharing of bread and wine. Our Sunday services
are at 10:30 am each week. We also have a Wednesday
morning service at 7:30 am followed by an
informal breakfast at Clarke’s on Main Street. There are also
a variety of services during the year ~ on Ash Wednesday, during Holy
Week, in combination with our Annual Picnic, St. Andrew’s Day,
the Blessing of the Animals, Advent Lessons and Carols, etc. The map
showing how to find us can be seen below. Parking is on the street
in front of the church and limited. You can walk up the hill from
Main or Bench Streets. Parking for anyone who has difficulty “getting
around” is located in the handicapped spaces in our driveway
next to the church or in front of the church.
We are a “user-friendly” church in terms of our worship.
You can come informally dressed. Our worship service is all contained
in the bulletin you'll receive at the door and is based on the Book
of Common Prayer. It includes all the service music, lessons, prayers,
and announcements so you can follow the service very easily even if
you’re a first time visitor. All baptized Christians are invited
to the altar to receive the bread and wine.
Our principal service is the Holy Eucharist (called the Holy Communion,
Lord's Supper, Mass, etc. in various traditions.) We prefer the use
of Eucharist, an ancient Greek word meaning "thanksgiving"
from the New Testament. It is celebrated every Sunday in recognition
of our Lord's command to "do this in remembrance of me."
During the service we stand for hymns and to affirm our faith through
the Creed; kneel or stand for prayer and Communion; and sit for Scripture
readings, the sermon, and announcements. We believe that worship is
not a "spectator sport" and should involve the whole person
and all the senses.
While we have many customs, there is no right or wrong way to worship.
We hope you will find our services to be true expressions of Praise
to God in their well ordered dignity and beauty. We hope that you
will feel God's presence in this, God's house. |
