| Heritage Show |
The Grace Heritage Show features the work of Charles LeBoutillier, father of our own Frances Rivoire. What a fascinating man! A graduate of Harvard, he then attended L’Ecoles des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. While in France, LeBoutillier became a full-fledged member of Gertrude Stein’s Lost Generation. Some of his most beautiful works date from this period, as he searched for his muse following the path of El Greco and painting in water color landscapes which the famous Cretan had painted in oil. Back in America, he lived in West Village working in New York City as a set designer for Paramount Films. He moved to Maryland in the mid-1930s, where he ultimately became the Director of Advertising for the Cannon Shoe Company in Baltimore. In addition to his lifelong pursuit of art, LeBoutillier was a pioneer in dog obedience training in the United States. He was a dog breeder and judge. A fanatic gardener, he hybridized Daylilies in his later years. A lover of motion pictures, and forever concerned about war, endangered species and a preservationist, much of his work shows his stance on these topics including: Vietnam, Honey Bee population, Whaling and the Global Environment. Included in the show will be sculptures, paintings, photos, prints, lithographs, etc. and photos of the artist. |
